COMPLETE INTERNATIONAL FIGURES 2007/08

Michael Ballack may have progressed the furthest of any Chelsea player in Euro 2008 but it was not enough to win the most caps in the international season just ended.

That achievement belongs to Michael Essien. Ghanaian involvement in the African Cup of Nations plus a recent, packed World Cup qualification schedule helped lift his total to 16 matches played in the last 12 months.

Claude Makelele, now retired from representing his country, managed the second highest figure among the Chelsea squad. The 35-year-old started 13 games for France.

Ballack (who is the most-capped player in the Chelsea dressing room) had his total last season affected by injury that kept him off the pitch until December - so his 10 games tally is less than the figures for Didier Drogba, Paulo Ferreira and Florent Malouda.

Joe Cole was the most played by England last season.

Drogba was Chelsea's leading international marksman in the campaign with six goals for Ivory Coast. It is a total matched by compatriot Salomon Kalou if one goal scored at Under 23 level is included.

Figures correct to 30 June 2008
