Villa: Barry can go

Martin O'Neill has conceded that Gareth Barry's long-running proposed move from Aston Villa to Liverpool could still be on, despite Liverpool missing an agreed deadline to complete the signing last week.
'Once the deadline had passed, we were very upbeat,' the Villa manager said last night. 'But [Barry and his agent] still felt that Liverpool were going to come in and do the deal.
'I've listened to what they've said and I'll go with it - reluctantly, but I'll go with it. Liverpool now have up to the normal window, which is the 31st of this month. The ball is in their court.'
Manchester United's summer-long pursuit of Dimitar Berbatov 'is back on the agenda', according to a source at Old Trafford - but with Tottenham holding out for more than £30m, 'the problem is the price'. The impasse has delayed the potential arrival in London of Spartak Moscow's Roman Pavlyuchenko. Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster, meanwhile, has confirmed that he is still intent on signing United's Cristiano Ronaldo. 'It is very complicated. But I do believe the club are working hard.'
Joao Moutinho's proposed transfer to Everton is being fiercely opposed by Sporting Lisbon. 'They are not willing to sell,' says a highly placed source at Everton. 'There is a buy-out clause of £20m, but we are not willing to pay that. There's nothing he or we can do.' Manager David Moyes' outspoken comments about the club's inability to attract players have not been received well at boardroom level. 'We are trying to bring in the right kind of player. There is money available to him. What the manager said was not fair.'
Real Madrid's Brazilian forward Robinho, who played against Hamburg in the Emirates Cup match yesterday, 'is desperate to leave' for Chelsea, and 'should cost around £21.5m', says a source close to the player.
Steve Coppell has confirmed that Reading's Nicky Shorey will move back to the Premier League this week. The player has been linked with West Ham, Portsmouth, Newcastle and Villa.
